Registerfly.com fiasco
We’re starting to see some serious grumblings from Registerfly.com users, as well the news media. There is something major going on over there, and they may well go down in flames. It’s not certain at all what is happening. It appears their CEO might have been stealing money and using it for liposuction? But the bottom line is that there are about 1 million domains that are just out there in limbo. No one knows what is going to happen to them as a company right now. The ICANN (The people who mediate domain name issues) are taking a serious look at this, and sending some stern warnings. They have filed a few motions to get the database from this registrar, in case they do go out of business.
This is very interesting to watch from the ‘F’d Company’ perspective of the dotcom crash. But it does call into question the whole decentralization of the Domain Registration System.
I will be paying close attention to this in the next few months to see how it pans out.
